Riley grew up in Shenandoah, Iowa, and now resides in Fairbanks, AK. He has been racing for 7 years. He started his career as a musher by working as a tour guide in Colorado in 2010, and was quickly hooked. He moved to Alaska in 2013 and worked for Alaska Icefield Expeditions, where he has worked every summer since (maybe you met him there!) doing sled dog tours. He moved to the Fairbanks area of Alaska and began acquiring dogs and building his kennel. He finished the YQ in 2018 in 13th place as a rookie, and won the sportsmanship award. He finished the 2020 Iditarod in 25th place and was apart of the Elim 11. He started work at Trail Breaker Kennels this year and has the opportunity to train out of Trail Breaker’s Eureka property this fall. Him and his dogs will be training for the 2021 Iditarod as well as the YQ 300.
